The exaggerated fashions of the period were a gift for caricaturists, coinciding with what has become known as the golden age of the satirical print. Towards the end of the 18th century tightly fittingĀ leather was the most expensive option for breeches, but it was not without its practical difficulties. This print by Thomas Rowlandson depicts a large manĀ being manhandled into an optimistically small pair of leather breeches.
