Textiles
Among the earliest and most important works of art in the Royal Collection are the 100 or so tapestries at Hampton Court Palace, which include the outstanding Story of Abraham set made in Brussels for Henry VIII in the 1540s. The Palace of Holyroodhouse in Edinburgh contains an important group of Flemish and French 17th and 18th century tapestries.
There are a number of important beds in the collection (principally at Holyroodhouse and Hampton Court), some with their rare and fragile original textile hangings. The textile collection also encompasses historic costumes, particularly ceremonial dress and Coronation robes, and more personal items, such as the wedding dresses of Queen Victoria and Queen Alexandra.
